Best time to visit Uganda

  • Green Season/wet Highlights
    • March, April & May – Uganda has more rainfall throughout the country in these months, with a peak in April in the southern part of Uganda. But most of the days have some sunshine. The wet season can make safari more difficult since the roads are slippery and forest trails for gorilla tracking is challenging too. Most parts of Uganda’s day time temperature average is between 28°C/82°F and with morning temperatures ranging from 16°C/61°F.  With gorilla parks which is at high altitudes and warmer in the north.
    • September, October & November – These months are mostly the same as  March, April and May but, they have less rain, with day time temperatures ranging between  28°C/82°F.
  • Dry Season Highlights
    • June, July & August In Uganda, June and July are the driest months in most of the south, but with Uganda climate it can still rain. Uganda temperatures range between 27°C/81°F in the afternoon and 16°C/61°F in the morning. Altitudes which are above 1300m/4265ft it will be colder. When south is dry season in these months, in the northern part of Uganda is wet season. The far north-east, including Kidepo Valley National Park, is semi-arid and can experience droughts some years.
    •  December, January & February – Still south has less rainfall, which is more when compared to June and July. During daytime, temperatures range between 28°C/82°F and 16°C/61°F in the morning. The north has a clear Dry season with little rain.

The best wildlife safari/tour viewing months in Uganda are during the Dry seasons from June to August and December to February. Primate/gorilla walks in the forest are a big part of any safari in Uganda. The habitat of forests is, by default, very wet, and one can’t avoid rain completely.
